Mangalore: Many languages, including Tulu is feeling the heat of globalization, with the dominance of English. So, Tuluvas should not forget their mother tongue, which would just mean forgetting their origin, opined former chief minister and Union Minister of Chemicals and Fertilizers D V Sadananda Gowda.
Speaking as the chief guest of the anniversary celebration of the weekly Tulu webinar series being organised by Shri Dharmasthala Manjunatheshwara Tulu Study Chair and PG department of Tulu in association with University Evening College, on Saturday, he promised of putting his best effort to add Tulu to the 8th schedule of the Indian Constitution and added, "If the state government recognizes Tulu as a state language, it will help to develop the language within the system."
Well-known journalist Vijayalakshmi Shibaroor opined that the contribution of Tuluvas to the Kannada media industry is immense. “We are ahead of others with hold in language, clarity, honesty, hard work, patience and hardship. But now it is a tedious thing that talents from Tulunadu are intentionally side-lined,” she added.
Advocate M. K Suvruta Kumar said, "Let us strive for the development of language by incorporating it a part of our daily lives." In his presidential address, Mangalore University Vice Chancellor Prof. P. Subrahmanya Yadapadithaya said, “It is a matter of pride for the Mangalore University to have completed a year of Tulu lecture series in unfavourable circumstances.”
Mangalore University Registrar Dr. Kishore Kumar C K , Evening College Principal Dr. Subhashini Srivathsa, Tulu Study Chair and Tulu PG department Coordinator Dr Madhava MK were present among others. Mrs. Vijayalakshmi Katil mastered the ceremony.
