‘Five Laws of Library Science’ is still relevant: Prof P. Subrahmanya Yadapadithaya


Mangalore: National Librarians' Day, the birth anniversary of ‘Father of Indian Library Science’ Dr. Shiyali Ramamrita Ranganathan (1892-1972) was celebrated at Mangalore University Library on Thursday.


In his inaugural speech, Vice Chancellor Prof P. Subrahmanya Yadapadithaya said that Dr. S R Ranganathan served as the President of the Indian Library Association from 1944 to 1953, also serving at the Banaras Hindu University (1945–47) and the University of Delhi (1947–55). It is a matter of pride to have made quite a name internationally. He said his "Five Laws of Library Science" book is still relevant.


Mangalore University Librarian Dr. Purushothama Gowda welcomed the guests. The staff of the university library, heads of various departments and professors were present.
