September to November/ December ( that's 3 to 4 months) is main off season fir jackfruit. Having production in this period is an exception except in the case of Panruthi and in case of All season / Twice bearing ( dophala) jackfruit varieties.
It is high time some serious and collective and well planned efforts are taken to identify off season cultivars of our respective areas at least in taluk or district levels.
This is a good time to plan and initiate such combing cooperation with the help of social media. At least we can make some headway and create awareness with regard to such an activity.
Benefit of such off season varietal selection is manyfold. After having another round of selection fir best cultivars out of these based on some minimum criteria, we can mass multiply and request local farmers to plant some grafts of these rare varieties.
In the near future home industries in the respective areas can run operations for more time in a year and respective farmers can get better returns.
I'm interested to know whether any organisation/ farmers groups or departments have initiated such an activity anywhere in India.
