Mangalore: Rather than feeding the hungry stomach, there is a need to teach Divyang and Differently Abled to fill the stomach, said Nitte University Pro-Chancellor Dr. M Shantharama Shetty opined.
He presided over the, 30th anniversary celebration of Dakshina Kannada and Udupi District Differently Abled Persons’ Association and distribution of medical assistance and scholarship distribution to the Divyangs, jointly organized by the District Red Cross Unit and Youth Red Cross Unit of Mangalore University at Ravindra Kalabhavana of University College Mangaluru here on Sunday. “Being born disabled, one need not feel helpless. One must live a life of self-determination without waiting for anyone else's pity.”
In his inaugural speech, Dakshina Kannada District Red Cross Chairperson CA Shantharama Shetty said that, the Red Cross is the only organization dedicated to the donation of the community to the community. “Youth Red Cross Unit of Mangalore University has initiated training Divyang students in the colleges under the university, which is appreciable,” he said.
Mangalore City Corporation Mayor Premananda Shetty, assured that MCC will do its best to help Divyang students. Sakshima Trust Trustee Jayadeva Kamath, College Principal Dr. Anasuya Rai, District Red Cross Secretary Prabhakar Sharma, Mangalore University Youth Red Cross Nodal Officer Dr. Ganapathi Gowda were present among others.
Seva Bharathi Trust, Kanyadi, Belthangady, President Vinayaka Rao has been felicitated for helping those who are struggling in the society, despite his spinal cord injury.
Dakshina Kannada and Udupi District Differently Abled Persons’ Association President Dr V Muralidhara Nayak welcomed the audience. Red Cross Divyang Cell Chairman Dr. K R Kamath extended vote of thanks. Dinamani Rao mastered the ceremony. Dr V Muralidhara Nayak carried out a training and information camp for Divyang students.
