Symposium on "Sustainable Farming Futures" at NITK Surathkal


Surathkal, January 28, 2025: The School of Humanities, Social Sciences, and Management at NITK Surathkal is hosting a symposium titled "Sustainable Farming Futures" on January 28th and 29th, 2025. This event is organized under the SPARC-sponsored project, led by Prof. Ritanjali Majhi from NITK Surathkal and Prof. Niraj Kumar from the University of Essex, UK. The focus is on integrating circular economy principles into agri-food systems to enhance the socio-economic conditions of farmers.


The inaugural ceremony, titled "Sowing the Seeds," featured Shri Amit Verma, Director of the Circular Economy Cell, NITI Aayog, as the chief guest. In his keynote address, Shri Verma emphasized the crucial need to strengthen India's innovation ecosystem, encourage sustainable farming practices among farmers, and propel India towards global leadership in the circular economy. The Guests of Honour, Shri Channappa Angadi, Assistant Director of Agriculture from the Karnataka State Agriculture Department, and Prof. Niraj Kumar from the University of Essex, shared their insights on sustainable farming and the role of innovation in revolutionizing agriculture. The event was presided over by Prof. Uday Bhat K., Dean of Research and Consultancy at NITK Surathkal.


The symposium is co-sponsored by MRPL and MCF, Mangalore. Additionally, a capacity-building program was held from January 20th to 24th, 2025, aimed at research scholars to bolster their knowledge and capabilities in sustainable agriculture.
