NITK Surathkal Launches Five-Day Workshop on AI-Driven Secure Critical Infrastructure



Surathkal, Karnataka – July 7, 2025:  The Cyber Security Research Lab (CSRL), Department of Computer Science and Engineering, National Institute of Technology Karnataka, Surathkal, inaugurated a Five-Day Workshop on “AI-Driven Secure Critical Infrastructure” today at the Digital Learning Centre, NITK campus. Jointly organized by CSRL and ISEA Lab, Department of CSE, the workshop runs from July 7 to July 11, 2025.


The inauguration ceremony featured Dr. Maanak Gupta, Faculty member, Department of Computer Science, Tennessee Tech University, USA, as the Chief Guest, and Prof. Uday Bhat, Dean (Research & Consultancy), NITK Surathkal, as the Guest of Honour. The event welcomed 52 participants from across India.


The workshop, coordinated by Prof. Alwyn R. Pais, Prof. P. Santi Thilagam, Dr. Mahendra Pratap Singh, and Dr. Shyam Lal from the Department of CSE, NITK Surathkal, includes 18 technical sessions, 13 expert talks, and 5 hands-on training sessions delivered by distinguished academicians from national and international universities, alongside industry experts.


In his address, Dr. Maanak Gupta emphasized the importance of preparing the next generation of students and professionals for technological advancements. “As we advance toward smart cities and communities, critical infrastructure—such as nuclear energy, hospitals, transportation, and interconnected ecosystems—must be secure,” he stated. “This workshop’s blend of industry and academia fosters research, innovative educational platforms, and hands-on activities, creating a significant impact on the future workforce.” He highlighted the need for secure AI and cybersecurity integration across sectors to ensure robust, interconnected systems.


The workshop is supported by the ISEA Project (Phase III), Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology, Government of India; C3i Hub – IIT Kanpur; and ONGC MRPL.
