Yalahanka, Bengaluru: ‘Looking back, it is clear that the Kannada language, which has a history of thousands of years, has united various generations with its rich literature and great cultural traditions. Our Kirtanas and Vachanas have not only enriched literature but also the field of music. To make Kannada, the language of our heart and the language of Science and Technology, we have to take a pledge that we will think in Kannada and do research in Kannada. Then the whole world will know how Kannada can easily express the scholarship of different branches of knowledge. As soon as the knowledge repository is in Kannada, there is no doubt that the researchers from different language backgrounds will learn Kannada’, said Dr. Ananya Bhagath, renowned classical singer, music researcher and popular playback singer of Kannada films, while inaugurating the 70th Karnataka Rajyotsava and Ethnic Day celebrations-‘Aarohana’ held at Nitte (Deemed to be University) campus, Bengaluru.
Further she added – ‘Let Kannada culture and Kannada pride remain in our minds, no matter wherever we are in the world, no matter which branch of knowledge we are learning. We should always feel proud that we are Kannadigas and belong to Karnataka’.
Welcome address was delivered by Dr. Sandeep Shastri, Vice President, Nitte (Deemed to be University), Bengaluru campus. In his speech he said – ‘The speciality of our Karnataka is that most in every hundred people are in the age group of 20 to 30 years. They are the architects of ‘Vikasit Bharat’ by the year 2047, the centenary year of India’s Independence. The concept of ‘Vikasit Bharat’ would be incomplete without ‘Vikasit Karnataka’, the most prosperous State in India’.
Prizes were distributed to the winners of various competitions held on the occasion. The focus of the competitions was the participation of students from other states and foreign countries in the 'I too know Kannada' segment.
Shashank, the Student head of 'Chiguru' Kannada group and Faculty Coordinator Dr. N. Nalini gave a detailed presentation on the Kannada related activities being carried out in the University.
Dr. Sandhya Ravi, Principal, Nitte School of Fashion Technology and Interior Design, proposed vote of thanks.
Dr. J. Sudheer Reddy, Director, Curriculum Development and Dean (Academics), NMIT ; Dr. Kusum Devi, Principal, Nitte College of Pharmaceutical Sciences; Dr. Hitha D. Shetty, Dean (Students Welfare), NMIT and others were present on the occasion.
Later, the students of the college showcased vivid cultural programmes portraying the glory of Karnataka, on the occasion.
