Bengaluru: B.M.S. College for Women convenes a distinguished Two-Day National Science Conference on “Biosphere 2026: Science for a Sustainable Planet”
The Department of Sciences at B.M.S. College for Women, functioning under the aegis of the B.M.S. Educational Trust, in esteemed collaboration with Dr. Manmohan Singh Bengaluru City University, magnificently organized a Two-Day National Science Conference titled “Biosphere 2026: Science for a Sustainable Planet” on 25 February 2026 at the B.M. Sreenivasaiah Memorial Auditorium, Basavanagudi, Bengaluru. The conference was conducted in hybrid mode, enabling the participation of scholars, academicians, and students from across the nation.
Dr. B. S. Ragini Narayan, Donor Trustee and Member Secretary, BMSET sent her best wishes for the resounding success of the event.
The solemn proceedings commenced with the rendition of the Nadageethe, followed by an invocation and the ceremonial lighting of the lamp, symbolizing the dispelling of ignorance through knowledge. The event was presided over by the Chief Guest, Prof. Ramesh B., Honorable Vice-Chancellor of Dr. Manmohan Singh Bengaluru City University.
The distinguished dignitaries gracing the occasion included A. S. Kiran Kumar, Padma Shri awardee and former Chairman of Indian Space Research Organisation, Dr. Raghukumara N., Principal, B.M.S. College for Women, Dr. Suresha P. H., Principal, BMS PU College and Dr. Vyshali B. M., Convener of the Conference
The gathering was cordially welcomed by Dr. Raghukumara N., who extended heartfelt greetings to the dignitaries and participants.
In his presidential address, Prof. Ramesh B. lauded B.M.S. College for Women for its six decades of steadfast dedication to women’s empowerment and academic excellence. He eloquently emphasized that science must be guided by ethical principles, sustainability is no longer optional but inevitable, and interdisciplinary collaboration is imperative in addressing contemporary global challenges. He conveyed his earnest wishes for the resounding success of the conference.
Delivering the keynote address, Shri A. S. Kiran Kumar profoundly articulated the essential dos and don’ts of sustainability. He underscored that transformative change necessitates careful observation, systematic data collection, rigorous analysis, and thoughtful intervention. He highlighted that numerous technological advancements have emerged from space research and reaffirmed that a nurturing and conducive environment is indispensable for fostering young scientific minds. He observed that humanity, as explorers of the “Human Planet,” has continually innovated to reduce physical labour and meet evolving needs. He urged the participants to explore the universe with responsibility, cultivate sustainability, and empower future generations to lead meaningful and prosperous lives on Earth.
The dignitaries were felicitated in recognition of their invaluable contributions. The former principals of the institution and retired science staff graced the occasion. The formal session concluded with a gracious vote of thanks delivered by Dr. Sumangala N., Controller of Examinations.
The conference witnessed remarkable academic engagement, with 93 faculty members and students from 24 institutions presenting research papers and posters. Additionally, nearly 200 science enthusiasts participated through the hybrid platform, rendering the conference a significant and inspiring confluence of scientific thought dedicated to the vision of a sustainable planet.
