Puttur: “Time management is the cornerstone of student life. It is only through rigorous discipline and a profound spirit of service that one can emerge as a responsible citizen,” asserted Mr Ammanna Rai, former serviceman and founding President of the School Development and Monitoring Committee (SDMC) of Government High School, Papemajalu.
Mr Rai was delivering the inaugural address at the Annual Special Camp (2025-26) of the National Service Scheme (NSS) units of St Philomena College (Autonomous), Puttur. The seven-day residential camp, scheduled from February 3 to February 9, is being hosted at the Government High School premises in Papemajalu, Ariyadka.
Speaking on the core theme of the camp, “Youth for Digital Literacy, Youth for My India” Mr Rai lauded the academic excellence and the culture of discipline fostered by St Philomena College, urging the volunteers to bridge the digital divide in rural sectors.
Presiding over the ceremony, Rev. Dr Antony Prakash Monteiro, Principal of St Philomena College(Autonomous), delivered a poignant message on character building. “Experience possesses the transformative power to reshape one's perspective on life. An NSS camp is not merely a platform for manual labor; it is a laboratory for life lessons,” Dr Monteiro stated. He emphasized that service should not be a performative gesture but an innate impulse arising from the heart, encouraging students to utilize this opportunity for holistic personality development.
The inaugural event was graced by several local dignitaries, including Mr Jayanta Nadubail, Mr Iqbal Hussain, Mr Mohandas Rai, Mr Shivappa Kulal, Mr Monappa Poojary, Ms Pushpalata Papemajalu, Mr Tilak Rai Kutyadi, and Mr Vasu Poojary Gundyadka, all of whom extended their best wishes to the campers.

The program commenced with a welcome address by Unit Leader Manish and concluded with a vote of thanks by Programme Officer Pushpa N. Unit Leader J. Lavika moderated the proceedings.
