Bengaluru: The integration of technology with culture is essential for a country like India, and without cultural grounding, technology risks losing its relevance, said Vivasvan Shastri, Vice President (Engineering) at GE HealthCare.
He was speaking at the inauguration of Anaadyanta-2026, the national techno-cultural festival of Nitte Meenakshi Institute of Technology, where he was the Chief Guest. Emphasising India’s evolving technological journey, Shastri said the nation is not merely adopting technology but is actively integrating and localising it to create a unique digital ecosystem that reflects its diverse cultural identity.
“As India advances as a technological leader, the convergence of technology and culture will assume greater significance. This dynamic relationship is an ongoing and evolving story,” he noted.
Nearly 6,000 engineering students from institutions across the country are participating in the two-day national festival. Addressing the students, Shastri advised them to focus on their individual strengths and skills. He said that concentrating on one’s strengths fosters motivation and authenticity, while effectively managing weaknesses ensures steady personal and professional growth.
Kannada film actor Viraat, who was the Guest of Honour, said his engineering education and logical thinking played a vital role in shaping his successful career in cinema and television.
Dr. H.C. Nagaraj, Principal of Nitte Meenakshi Institute of Technology, outlined the institution’s achievements and highlighted the significance of Anaadyanta, which has emerged as a major national platform for engineering students to showcase their technical and creative talents.
Rohit Punja, Trustee of the Nitte Education Trust, who chaired the event, expressed hope that such festivals would act as catalysts for innovation, personal development, and community engagement among students.
Dr. Hitha D. Shetty, Dean of Students’ Welfare and Coordinator of Anaadyanta-2026; Dr. Ramachandra A.C., Professor and Coordinator; Dr. J. Sudheer Reddy, Director (Curriculum Development and Academics); along with student coordinators Anushrava and Hrudya, were present on the occasion.
The festival features a wide array of technical competitions, cultural programmes, and sports activities, including choreo night, fashion show, regional band performances, quizzes, poetry slam, reel-making, mobile photography, solo singing and dance, mono acting, T-shirt painting, dub music, debates, pro show, and DJ night.
