Mangaluru, April 8: Mandd Sobhann, a premier Konkani cultural organization celebrating its 40th anniversary (1986–2026), will host the First World Konkani Music Mega Convention in Mangaluru from November 3 to 15, 2026.
The muhurtham and logo launch of the convention will be held on April 10 at 4:00 PM at Kalaangann, Shaktinagar. Karnataka Legislative Assembly Speaker U.T. Khader will attend as the chief guest, while Health and Family Welfare Minister and Dakshina Kannada district in-charge Dinesh Gundu Rao will unveil the logo.
MLA Vedavyas Kamath, MLC Ivan D’Souza, and noted Goan artiste Michael Gracias will be present as guests of honour.
A major highlight of the convention will be an attempt to set a Guinness World Record for the longest singing marathon by multiple singers, planned to run continuously for 12 days, 12 hours, and 12 minutes. Organisers expect participation from over 6,000 singers representing Karnataka, Goa, Maharashtra, Kerala, other parts of India, and overseas.
The marathon will feature around 5,000 Konkani songs, with participation from diverse communities including Christian, GSB, Daldi, Kudmi, Kharvi, Siddi, Syrian Orthodox, among others.
In addition to the record attempt, the convention will include music symposiums, felicitation of veteran artistes, a Hall of Fame, and a cultural exhibition centered on Konkani music and heritage.
The event is being organised as a tribute to Eric Ozario in recognition of his significant contributions to Konkani music.
Mandd Sobhann has invited members of the media and the public to attend the muhurtham and logo launch and support the initiative.
At a press conference, Mandd Sobhann President Louis J. Pinto, Kalaangann Pirjent Roy Castelino, Convention Music Director Joel Pereira, Coordinator Stany Alvares, Vice President Naveen Lobo, and Secretary Ronald Crasta were present.
