Neenasam: A Palette Of Art Forms

Some visits drift away from our memory with no time whereas some lie impressioned for years to come. Although it was my second time being in Neenasam my excitement saw no drop. Neenasam held its literary camp from first to fifth of October.Writers, intellectuals, activists and students from various regions were present in the camp.Imagine scholars connecting simple phrases like skin, touch, eye and politics finally to deliver a highly philosophical message, Professor Arindam Chakravarthy was one such scholar. He spoke about how skin becomes a medium of separation as well as connection at the same time and suggested abstract patterns underlying political unrest to be examined carefully.

Though translation seems to be an effortless task we learnt that it demands greater artistic dedication and precision in another session. We enriched our ideas with diverse streams of knowledge flowing at us.

Afternoons cheered the hall up various art forms across the country were performed, Harmonium-accordian duo was the best of all. One of the artists was an Army officer it seemed to us that professions need not overshadow one's passion for art.

However, the initial plays were deep and appealing compared to the rest. 'Thaala Maddalam' for me was a new experience, it was monotonous, yet pleasurable.

The puppet show had a strong message to tell.We expected captivating dolls to act before us but to our surprise a blank paper and a pair of shoes led the entire show indicating that art doesn't simply exist in a physical entity but it lies in life that the artist fills into it.

'Kola' was the play that touched me the most. It portrayed the vicious cycle of patriarchal oppression that transmits from one generation to the other. It also showed the lack of emotional proximity of neuclear families with their roots.

In my opinion that earthy scent at Neenasam is synonymous to its true nature. Students of it who are now highly placed in various fields, get along with everyone selflessly and engage in every discussion despite their huge fame.

Lectures, artforms, plays and music what else could you ask for? Days felt like minutes. All these beautiful experiences made getting back to college quite a task.We were waiting for the bus amidst the greenery of Heggodu. I wondered how I had come with two friends and was returning with 10 others. It was almost afternoon, crickets screeched in the background. I noticed a creeper curled up against my ankle. Immediately a friend announced that the bus was coming, I pulled it apart and moved ahead.
