Mangalore University pays tribute to Dr. Siddalingaiah

Mangalore: Noted Kannada poet who raised voice for Dalits, Dr. Siddalingaiah worked towards reviving society through his poems of protest, said Mangalore University Vice Chancellor Prof. P. Subrahmanya Yadapadithaya.

Speaking in a formal program organised by the Mangalore University to commemorate the poet in front of ‘Mangala’ stadium here on Saturday, he said the poet portrayed the struggle against injustice and inequality through his poetry. Kannada Department Professor Somanna Hongalli opined, though the works of Dr. Siddalingaiah were Dalit-centric, his messages have crossed the bars of caste, gender, religion and regionalism.

Assistant Professor Dr. B M Govindaraju and others were present. The dignitaries paid a floral tribute to the departed soul. Mangalore University Photographer Chandrasekhar M. B read few poems of Dr. Siddalingaiah. Research scholar Rajesh V mastered the ceremony.
