Mangaluru: The 76th year of Indian Independence was celebrated by the University Evening College at Dr. Shivarama Karantha Sabhabhavana with great enthusiasm on Monday.
After hoisting the flag, Chief Guest Retired Army Officer Captain Damodar S inaugurated the stage program. Addressing the gathering, he said that it is the responsibility of every citizen to protect our freedom, we should be eternally indebted to all the freedom fighters who sacrificed for our country.
Speaker, retired accountant of Employees' Provident Fund Office Chandrahasa Kananthur, spoke on 'Freedom Movements of Dakshina Kannada District' and explained the importance of Amara Sullia Movement and the terrible battle of Mangalore. Principal Dr. Subhashini Srivatsa opined that this Independence Day is a symbol of freedom from hatred, jealousy, servitude, selfishness and exploitation.
PG studies in Tulu Coordinator Dr. Madhava M K and MCOM and MBA (IB) Coordinator Dr Jagdeesh spoke on the importance of independence. Konkani MA Coordinator Dr. Devadas Pai and GST Coordinator Dr. Yathish Kumar was present. Program Nodal Officer Dr. Rati extended vote of thanks. Kannada lecturer Ashalatha coordinated the program. Tulu MA Lecturer Prashanthi welcomed. History Lecturer Madhushree J Sriyan coordinated the prize distribution program.
Prizes were distributed to students who won in various competitions held as a part of Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav. Students, teaching and non-teaching staff of the college were present.
