Preserving precious freedom is need of the hour: Prof. P.S.Yadapadithaya

University College Mangalore: VC opines at the inaugurals of one-day national seminar



Mangalore: India is a thousand-pillar structure. On this occasion of Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav celebration, we have to remember the sacrifices done for the freedom, and think about preserving the precious freedom, opined Mangalore University Vice Chancellor Prof. P. Subrahmanya Yadapadithaya. 


Presiding over a one-day national seminar organised by the IQAC, Department of History and Department of PG Studies in History of University College Mangalore, in association with Department of Hindi (UG and PG), and Department of Sociology, on ‘Revisiting Freedom Struggle in Coastal Karnataka’ at Ravindra Kalabhavana on Wednesday, he recalled the freedom fight in different streams including revolutionary, non-violent, literary, social reforms etc. 


In his keynote address, Goa University History Department Head Dr. N Shyam Bhat explained how coastal socio-religious upliftment, political knowledge, nationalism, educational institutions, printing and personalities influenced the coastal freedom struggle. Speaking as the chief guest, Mangalore University History Department Head, Prof. K M Lokesh said that along with the sacrifices made for the freedom struggle, millions of soldiers who sacrificed their lives to maintain freedom should be remembered. 


An exhibition was organized by the history students. Principal Dr. Anasuya Rai welcomed the guests. Convenor Dr. Jayaraj N delivered introductory speech. Department of PG studies in History and Archaeology, Dr. Kumaraswamy M mastered the program. Post Graduate Hindi Department Coordinator Dr. Nagaratna N. Rao proposed vote of thanks. Sociology Department Head Dr. Gayathri N, Hindi Department Head Dr. Suma R were present among others. 


Mangalore University Head of Department of Sociology Prof. Vinay Rajat D and St. Agnes College Mangalore Associate Professor Dr. Nagesh conducted the technical sessions. Lecturers and students presented research papers. Writer from Patna of Bihar Prof. Indu Jhunjhunwala was the guest of honour for the valedictory session.
