'Recalling Amara Sulya' the latest book which is all set to climb the highest road in the world!

Mangaluru: Published by the honourable Karnataka Tulu Sahitya Academy, ‘Recalling Amara Sulya' a first-of-its-kind book by Sulya's young author Anindith Gowda Kochi Baarike is all set to enter 'Umling La' (19,300 feet above sea level), the highest road in the world near the Indo-China Border at Ladakh.

An experienced team of two-wheeler riders called 'Screw Riders' has organized a rally to raise public awareness about the Amara Sulya revolutionary movement of 1837 and achieve this goal.

Led by Mr. Vineeth B. Shetty who hails from Mulki, he has an experience of travelling solo from Mangaluru to Ladakh covering 5000+ Kilometres. He also holds a record of continuous riding of nearly 34 hours spanning 5 states and nearly 1870 KM from Mumbai to Amritsar via Mount Abu Road. Along with him, Mr. Abhishek Shetty, Mr. Vinith Shetty, Mr. Shamoon M., Mr. Deepak Karkera and Mr. Rovil Almeida of Team Screw Riders will be accompanying in this rally.

Beginning on 17th September the rally will be flagged off from the Tulu Bhavan (Urwa Store, Mangaluru) at 10 A.M. The bikers will then catch the Udupi route towards Mumbai and proceed onto Gujarat - Rajasthan - Haryana - Punjab (particular Amritsar and the Indo-Pak Wagah Border) - Srinagar - Kargil - Leh - 'Khardung La' Pass - Turtuk - Pangong Lake - Sarchu - Manali - Delhi - Hyderabad and then onto Bengaluru, where the rally will be culminated on October 2nd.

In the words of Mr. Vineeth B. Shetty of Team Screw Riders, the aim of this rally all the way up to the world's highest road and back is to create an awareness on the Amara Sulya movement on which the Government-published English book 'Recalling Amara Sulya' is based on. Mr. Shetty feels it is a sign of good progress at the time of Amrit Mahotsav that a government publication has bought out an entire book on the subject, along with the collection of evidences of surviving British records! He remembered his schooling days when there was no mention of this revolutionary incident in any textbooks. The book being in English is readable anywhere in the world, this has inspired him to spread awareness on this heroic contribution of Tulunad in India's Independence movement.
