MU: National-level Synergistic Training Program from Oct 10th


Mangalore: The Centre for advanced research in Environmental Radioactivity (CARER), Centre for Application of Radiation and Radioisotopes Technology (CARRT), Promotion of University Research and Scientific Excellence (PURSE) of Mangalore University are jointly organizing the Department of Science and Technology (DST) sponsored National-level Synergistic Training Program Utilizing the Scientific and Technological Infrastructure (STUTI) training programme from October 10th to 16th at Mangalore University.  The programme is being organised in association with JSS Academy of Higher Education and Research, Mysuru.


The focal theme of the training programme is ‘Applications of Radiation and Radioisotopes in Physical, Materials, Chemical and Biological Science Research’. Yenepoya (Deemed to be University) Vice Chancellor Prof. (Dr.) M Vijaykumar will inaugurate the event at Rajashri Dr Veerendra Heggade Hall of Mangalore University on October 10th at 10 am. Mangalore University Vice Chancellor Prof. P Subrahmanya Yadapadithaya will preside over the inaugural event. 


The thematic areas of the training programme will be Carbon-14 urea breath test for Helicobacter pylori detection, Radiation dosimetry, Irradiation assisted synthesis of nanocomposites, Radioimmunoassay (RIA), Linear accelerators and brachytherapy systems for radiation therapy, Effect of gamma irradiation on materials and characterization using ultra low level HPGe gamma spectrometers, liquid scintillation spectrometer, FESEM, single crystal XRD, NMR spectrometer, laser scanning confocal microscope, TGA/DSC, LCMS/MS and GCMS and Applications of radiations and radioisotopes in health care, industry. 


Around 50 scientists from reputed institutions of the country are selected for the training programme.  Experts in the field, including scientists from Department of Atomic Energy, would be the resource persons, said a press release by the Mangalore University Registrar.
