MU to support research from all parts of the country: Prof. P S Yadapadithya
Mangalore: Radiation and radioisotopes have become essential part of human life as there are numerous number of beneficial applications to society, opined Yenepoya (Deemed to be University) Vice Chancellor Prof. (Dr) M Vijayakumar.
Addressing the gathering after inaugurating a National-level Synergistic Training Program (Oct. 10-17th) Utilizing the Scientific and Technological Infrastructure (STUTI), organized by the Centre for advanced research in Environmental Radioactivity (CARER), Centre for Application of Radiation and Radioisotopes Technology (CARRT), Promotion of University Research and Scientific Excellence (PURSE) of Mangalore University with the Department of Science and Technology (DST) here on Monday, he said that radiation technology has been developed to such stage that ultimate cure to cancer is possible with this technology.
Meanwhile, he congratulated Mangalore University for starting a PG Programme in Medical Physics which is tailor made to fulfill the need of trained human resource in healthcare and industry. Mangalore University Vice Chancellor Prof Subrahmanya Yadapadithya, in his presidential remarks, said that Mangalore University through centers like CARER, CARRT and DST-PURSE would continue to support research from all parts of the country and plan is be worked to strengthen these centers further.
CARER, CARRT Medical Physics Division Coordinator Prof. Karunakara Naregundi welcomed the dignitaries. Prof. K Bhasker Shenoy of Department of Applied Zoology proposed the vote of thanks. JSS Academy of Higher Education and Research Registrar Dr. B. Manjunatha, JSS AHER Director (Research) Dr. Prashant Vishwanath, Faculty of Science and Technology Dean Prof. Manjunatha Pattabhi, DST- PRESE Coordinator Prof. Vishalakshi B, NMR Instrument Centre In-charge Prof. Boja Poojary, CARRT Radiological Safety Officer Prof. Prashanth Naik were present.
The programme is being organised in in association with JSS Academy of Higher Education and Research, Mysuru. 50 scientists from reputed institutions of the country are selected for the training programme. Experts in the field, including scientists from Department of Atomic Energy, are the resource persons.
