Mangaluru: Mental health distress is increasing especially among young adults and an issue which needs an efficient redressal system. I am planning address this concern by providing mental health services especially for the government PU and UG college students, which aims at building up mental health support system, said D Vedavyas Kamath, MLA, Mangaluru south.
Kamath announced providing mental health support system to college students in hiduring the inaugural programme of ‘Mindful Equality- Mental Health as a Universal Human Right’, a yearlong community mental health programme initiated by NGO Anirvedha Foundation in association with Swasthika National Business School and Rotary Mangalore Downtown.
He emphasized the need for mental health services for the youth. He stated his concern over inaccessible mental health services especially for the government college students and proposed the possibility of building up mental health support system. Encouraging the programme organisers, he asked them to take up this initiative and he will support it. The beneficiaries of which will be around 6000 government college, both PU and UG students across his constituency. “This small step probably could be one of the ways of strengthening the theme of the current year.”
He stated examples of his own life and emphasized the need for knowing one’s abilities and limitations to do well in life.
In the exclusive event, the audience gathered also took an oath to foster mental healthy safety of the community led by the MLA Kamath.
Dr. Ravish Thunga, renowned psychiatrist highlighted the critical role of mental health in shaping the future generation in his keynote address.
Corporation Bank employees union were felicitated for their outstanding contributions to Anirvedha.
The event was attended by a diverse audience, including members of the Rotary Club, students of Swastika, and individuals associated with Anirvedha.
Dr Raghavendra Holla, Chairman, Swasthika National Business School, gave the presidential address and thanked the collaborators for recognizing the need of such initaitives, Dr. K T Shwetha, Director of Anirveda, delivered the prefatory note and briefed on the making mental health care a priority as a vision of Anirvedha, Rotary club secretary, Rotarian Umesh Gatty in his remarks noted such events being the need of the hour. Dr. Mahesh, Clinical Psychologist, Anirvedha, welcomed the gathering, Ms. Yashwini expressed gratitude in the vote of thanks, and Ms. Zaha was the Master of Ceremony.
