Surathkal: The National Institute of Technology Karnataka, Surathkal, celebrated the 76th Republic Day in a solemn and dignified manner. The event was graced by Prof. B. Ravi, Director of NITK, Col. Anilesh Kaushik, Commanding Officer, 2 Kar Engr. Coy NCC, Capt. P. Sam Johnson, Capt. H. Shivananda Nayaka, along with functionaries, faculty, staff, students and campus residents.
The celebration commenced with the unfurling of the national flag by the Director, followed by a ceremonial parade by the NCC cadets, students of NITK's Kannada and English Medium schools, and the institute's security team. This was followed by a cultural program that included inspiring dances and poetry recital by the students.
In his address, Prof. B. Ravi called for a renewed commitment to the values of the Indian Constitution, advocating for equal opportunity, individual dignity, and national unity. He mentioned that the concept of Republic is reflected in the ancient Gana-rajya or Jana-padha involving governance by a group of elected people. He exhorted all those assembled to study the ancient sciences, and blend technology with tradition, instead of blinding following Western concepts. For example, glass buildings which trap heat are good for cold countries, not India, certainly not Mangaluru. We can study Sthapathya Veda, the architectural science of buildings and city planning, which we can see in Hampi or Belur – excellent examples of functionality combined with aesthetics and ergonomics. Quoting Vivekananda, he said that every nation has a destiny to fulfil, message to deliver, and mission to accomplish. This requires both individual and collective effort in the right direction.
The Director shared that two of NITK students – Sathish from IT and Yashwanth from CS department are participating in the Republic Day parade in New Delhi. It is also a matter of great pride that in the last four years, four alumni of NITK have joined Indian Armed Forces.
The celebration concluded with a collective resolve affirming NITK's role as an Institute of National Importance in contributing to the vision of 'Viksit Bharat 2047, through economic and social development of the region in an equitable and environmentally sustainable manner.
