Surathkal: The National Institute of Technology Karnataka, Surathkal (NITK) and the Central Manufacturing Technology Institute (CMTI), Bengaluru, have entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) aimed at enhancing joint research and development activities. This partnership was formalized on January 21, 2025, with the signing of the MoU.
Under this agreement, human resources from both institutions—including faculty members, students, research scholars from NITK, and scientists from CMTI—are encouraged to engage in combined research projects. Faculty members from NITK will collaborate with CMTI scientists on activities leading to tangible outcomes such as joint publications, patent filings, proof of concept validations, and technology transfers tailored to industry needs.
Students (both undergraduate and postgraduate) and PhD scholars will have the opportunity to utilize CMTI's advanced research infrastructure and lab facilities for internships, project work, or thesis research. Conversely, CMTI's scientists and project associates are encouraged to pursue further qualifications through M.Tech. (Research) and PhD programs at NITK Surathkal.
CMTI's R&D Centres offer state-of-the-art experimental facilities in areas including machine control and calibration, precision machines and measurements, smart manufacturing, industrial Internet of Things, advanced material and characterization, MEMS sensors, sensor development, micro-nano systems engineering, packaging, and vision technology. Faculty members are particularly encouraged to visit these R&D centres to initiate research activities in areas of mutual interest, thereby paving the way for students' internships and joint projects.
