Doctor’s Timely Diagnosis Saves Patient’s Life Despite Scan Showing No Cancer

Bengaluru Whitefield:  A 45-year-old man named Babu, who was suffering from persistent abdominal pain for over 30 days, was initially under the impression that it was due to a gastric issue. However, after consulting Dr. Kaushik Subramanian, Consultant Gastroenterologist at Medicover Hospitals, a life-threatening condition was identified and treated just in time - despite initial scan reports showing no signs of cancer.

Dr. Kaushik, based on his clinical experience and a detailed evaluation of the patient's symptoms, suspected gallbladder cancer and immediately advised further tests. A scan was performed, but the report showed no evidence of cancer. Still concerned, Dr. Kaushik recommended a biopsy, which ultimately confirmed the presence of cancer in the gallbladder.

The patient was promptly taken up for a robotic radical cholecystectomy — a procedure to completely remove the gallbladder. Since the cancer had slightly spread to the liver, a portion of the liver was also surgically removed.

Final biopsy report revealed an early stage cancer of the gall bladder!

Dr. Kaushik Subramanian emphasized the importance of timely evaluation and treatment in cases related to gallbladder diseases. “Early and accurate diagnosis plays a crucial role in saving lives, especially when scan reports may not reveal the full picture,” he said.
