Bengaluru: In a landmark moment for India’s innovation ecosystem, INNOVASTHAN– A “Vichar to Vikas” Yatra was officially launched today at Shangri-La Hotel, Bengaluru, under the esteemed presence of Shri Thaawarchand Gehlot, Hon’ble Governor of Karnataka. The event marks the beginning of a national movement aimed at institutionalizing innovation, enhancing IP awareness, and transforming the academic, startup, and MSME landscape across the country.
INNOVASTHAN is the brainchild of Dr. Shweta Singh, Founder & Chairperson of the Council for Industrial and Innovation Research (CIIR) and CEO of Ennoble IP. The initiative has been conceptualized and developed under the visionary guidance of Dr. Chenraj Roychand, Chancellor of Jain Deemed-to-be University, a noted philanthropist and entrepreneur known for nurturing innovation and leadership in India.
Delivering the inaugural address, Dr. Shweta Singh shared the mission behind the initiative:
“INNOVASTHAN is not just a program—it’s a national call to action. From patents to policy, from labs to livelihoods—we must build a nation where ideas are protected, celebrated, and commercialized.”
Dr. Chenraj Roychand also addressed the gathering during the inaugural session, applauding the mission of INNOVASTHAN and emphasizing the need for youth-led innovation to shape India’s future.
Hon’ble Governor Shri Thaawarchand Gehlot lauded Karnataka’s role in nurturing India’s tech and startup economy and expressed his support:
“Guided by our Hon’ble Prime Minister’s vision of Viksit Bharat @2047, this yatra beginning from Karnataka will serve as a torchbearer for innovation and self-reliance across the country.”
The event featured keynote speeches from national and global luminaries:
• Dr. Ashutosh Sharma, President, INSA, emphasized,
“Innovation is the new currency of progress. We must convert our knowledge into economic and social value.”
• Prof. T.G. Sitharam, Chairman, AICTE, reflected on the growing innovation capacity of India’s education system and stressed on tech-led development.
• Dr. Ashwin Fernandes, Regional Director, QS World Rankings, pointed out,
“Global rankings follow outcomes. If India builds a cohesive innovation ecosystem like INNOVASTHAN, the impact will be global.”
• Prof. Unnat P. Pandit, Controller General of Patents, Designs & Trademarks, remarked,
“India’s IP filings have surged past 1 lakh this year—a testament to our creative potential. INNOVASTHAN will take this to new heights.”
The Karnataka Chapter launch outlined INNOVASTHAN’s multi-pronged roadmap:
• 5000+ institutions to be sensitized on IP and innovation.
• Top 100 Innovation Changemakers to be recognized.
• Facilitation Cells across India to support IP filing, tech transfer, and commercialization.
• Free IP Filing Support for 100 student innovators.
• Goal to increase India’s PCT filings from 1.7% to 5% by 2027.
• Elevate India into the Top 25 of the Global Innovation Index.
A powerful panel discussion followed the launch on “From Policy to Practice: Bridging Academia, Startups, and Industry,” featuring leaders from SPJIMR, WIPRO, Omega Seiki Mobility, Upgrad, and DXC Technology, moderated by ecosystem enabler Shri Umesh Ramalingachar.
During the Innovation Changemakers Recognition Ceremony, leaders and emerging voices driving meaningful innovation across sectors were honored.
As the event concluded, the energy in the room reflected a unified vision:
India is ready to lead, not follow. With INNOVASTHAN now ignited in Karnataka, CIIR is set to expand this movement across every state, aligning with the goals of NEP 2020, Atmanirbhar Bharat, and the Startup India Mission.
