Justice KS Hegde Charitable Foundation Award-2025 conferred on Smt Sudha Murty at Nitte Meenakshi Institute of Technology Bengaluru


Bengaluru: ‘At present our Nation is in a strong position and doesn't need any external support to achieve excellence. The credit for this progress must go to our elders, who created infrastructure and environment to educate the children in rural areas. Justice K.S. Hegde determined to stay in a small village after a distinguished career to relentlessly work for the upliftment and empowerment of the rural areas through education. Today we need large hearted persons like Sudha Murty to inspire young people to move further with courage & dedication. We are happy that this award has been conferred on Sudha Murty, renowned author & philanthropist for her outstanding contributions to literature and social service‘, said N. Vinaya Hegde, President, Nitte Education Trust and Chancellor, Nitte Deemed to be University, while conferring the most prestigious ‘Justice K.S. Hegde Charitable Foundation Award 2025’ on Sudha Murty, Member of Rajya Sabha, Writer, Philanthropist and Founder-Chairperson of Infosys Foundation at the campus of Nitte Meenakshi Institute of Technology, Off Campus of Nitte Deemed to be University, Yelahanka, Bengaluru. 


The Foundation is formed to honour Justice K.S. Hegde, who was former Judge of the Supreme Court of India and Former Speaker of the Lok Sabha. Each year on the occasion of his birthday, i.e. on June 11, the Foundation awards for those who contributed their might for the overall development of the society. So far, Justice K.S. Hegde Charitable Foundation Awards have been conferred on luminaries including Dr. K. Shivarama Karanth, Ms. Medha Patkar, Shri. Arun Shourie, Dr. Manmohan Singh, Dr. Prakash Amte and Dr. Mandakini Amte. The award includes a citation, a plaque and cash reward.

Guest of Honor Justice N. Santosh Hegde, Former Judge of the Supreme Court of India and Former Lokayukta of Karnataka spoke on the occasion. In his speech he said, ‘After becoming Lokayukta, I came across the true problems of the society. I found that the greed is the reason for the sufferings. At this juncture extraordinary persons like Sudha Murty are showing right path for young generation to move further with confidence and dedication. Her efforts for empowering the women, young students through her charity and writings are truly laudable. It has brought immense pleasure to me for conferring the award on such a truly deserving person’.


In her address as awardee, Sudha Murty said, ‘Nothing is certain in life. Whatever we earn is immaterial. Only the sacrifices we make for the wellbeing of the society would stay long in changing the lives of young citizens. They will carry forward the nation in the path of progress. I am extremely happy for receiving the Justice K.S. Hegde Charitable Foundation Award. This has inspired me to go forward with dedication with abundant confidence’.                       


In the beginning Dr. M. Shantharam Shetty, Pro-Chancellor, Nitte Deemed to be University welcomed the gathering. Dr. Sandeep Shastri, Vice President, Nitte Deemed to be University, Bengaluru campus briefed about the award. Dr. M.S. Moodithaya, Vice-Chancellor, Nitte Deemed to be University read the citation and Vishal Hegde, Pro-Chancellor (Admin), Nitte Deemed to be University proposed vote of thanks.


Dr. N.R. Shetty, Senior Advisor, Nitte Education Trust was present on the occasion.
