Bengaluru, Whitefield: A 28-year-old woman from Andhra Pradesh, who had been suffering from severe abdominal pain and heaviness in the lower abdomen for the past 4 years, was successfully treated at Medicover Hospital, Whitefield.
She consulted Dr. Samskruthi, Gynecologist, who, after a detailed evaluation, diagnosed multiple fibroids (uterine tumors). Interestingly, one of the fibroids was a rare huge broad ligament fibroid measuring 12 cm, which was pressing on her ureter (kidney pipe). If left untreated, this could have led to kidney failure.
Since the fibroids were located in a difficult position, conventional surgery posed significant challenges. Moreover, as the patient was young, preserving her future fertility was a key concern. Considering these factors, the doctors opted for advanced Robotic Myomectomy surgery, which was performed successfully.
During the surgery, doctors detected a large fibroid measuring 10x12 cm in the left broad ligament, a 2x2 cm fibroid in the front, and two smaller fibroids at the back. All the fibroids were successfully removed using robotic technology.
“This case highlights the advantages of robotic surgery – precision, minimal blood loss, less pain, faster recovery, and better outcomes. Most importantly, it helps preserve fertility, which is crucial for young women who wish to conceive in the future,” said Dr. Samskruthi, Gynecologist.
