St Aloysius University celebrated National Librarians Day ‘Bibliophilia 2025’



Mangalore: The Department of Library at St Aloysius (Deemed to be University), Mangaluru, celebrated Bibliophilia – Portable Magic, National Librarians Day and honoured the Monthly Best Library Users on 12 August, 2025.


The event, held at Sanidhya Hall, began with a prayer and was followed by a presentation showcasing the library’s resources and recent developments. Mr Udaya, Librarian, shared insights on the legacy of Dr S. R. Ranganathan, the Father of Library Science in India and a special tribute was paid in his honour. The event also marked the launch of QR Codes to enhance digital access to library resources.


Student representative Ms Anwika Preemal Miranda shared her personal experience with the library and the joy of reading. Dr Ronald Nazareth, Registrar, delivered the Chief Guest address, highlighting the transformative power of books and reading.


The Best Library User Awards were presented by the Honourable Vice Chancellor, Rev. Dr Praveen Martis SJ, who also delivered the presidential address, congratulating the winners and encouraging all library users to cultivate a love for reading.


A lively Library Quiz Competition was conducted by Ms Sunitha Machado, Assistant Librarian, engaging the participants with enthusiasm. Mr Yatheesha, Assistant Librarian, welcomed the gathering, while Mr Sanjeeva, Assistant Librarian, delivered the vote of thanks. The programme was compered by Ms Jenishya Sequeira, a final-year B.Sc. student.

The celebration was a testament to the vibrant reading culture fostered at the University Library.
