Bengaluru: Bangalore Kidney Foundation (BKF) pioneered the treatment of renal failure and kidney diseases in the state of Karnataka. The trust was established in 1979 and has evolved to become the nodal centre for providing quality renal health care at affordable costs to patients across demographic profiles and economic strata. A new state-of-the-art dialysis centre with 80+ dialysis machines has been built for affordable dialysis.  It is also commencing training centre for dialysis technicians.  BKF, from last three years is associated with 20 Rural Dialysis Centres to enable easy and quality access to dialysis treatment in their respective regions.


Every year, the Bangalore Kidney Foundation (BKF) conducts ‘Dhwani’ – Pandit Mallikarjun Mansur Hindustani Music Festival in memory of the association the legendary Hindustani singer late Pandit Mallikarjun Mansur had with BKF. The proceeds of the musical event help in sustaining free dialysis to poor patients and adding to the corpus which makes BKF meets its objectives. This year, proceeds from 20th Dhwani will be used to provide affordable dialysis to patients’ from rural dialysis centres.

DHWANI - MUSIC FOR A CAUSE

Late Pt.Mallikarjun Mansur, the doyen of hindusthani music was once admitted to Bangalore Kidney Foundation for treatment of kidney disease and was treated. Being happy for the treatment received from BKF and inspired by the service BKF is doing, after his recovery, Pt.Mallikarjun Mansur performed in a concert specially to support BKF. He donated the entire proceeding of the concert to BKF. Since then, BKF is organizing DHWANI under the tagline MUSIC FOR A CAUSE every September, in memory of Late Pt.Mallikarjun Mansur, who passed away in September 1992.


Dhwani has reached 20 grand years, where music lovers of Bangalore eagerly wait for this event. Many well known artistes have performed in Dhwani, to name a few – Pt.Shivkumar Sharma, Dr.N Rajam, Vid.Kishore Amonkar, Pt.Venkatesh Kumar, Pt.Vishwa Mohan Bhat, Ustad Rashid Khan, Dr.Prabha Atre, Vid. Ashwini Bhide, Vid. Jayashree Patnekar, Pt.Ulhas Khashalkar, Pt.Raghunandan Panshikar, Pt.Ganapathi Bhat, Pt. Ajoy Chakrabarty, Sri.Siddarth Belmannu, Sri.Lakshay Mohan & Sri Aayush Mohan and many more.


This year the festival will be held on the 04th and 05th October 2025 at Bangalore Gayana Samaja, K.R.Road, Bengaluru.


Session I has 2 concerts on Sat 04th October  :


Concert 1 - The festival begins on the 04th of October, Saturday featuring Jugalbandhi by Vidushi Arathi Ankalikar & Vidushi Manjusha Patil from 5:00 pm to 6:45pm. She will be accompanied by Pandit Ravindra Yavagal on Tabla and Pandit Vyasamurthy Katti  on Harmonium. 


Award Function

Every year the BKF confers the Pandit.Mallikarjun Mansur Memorial Award on an eminent performer and teacher of Hindustani classical music. This year Vidushi Dr N Rajam will be conferred the award for his invaluable services to Hindustani classical music. The award function will be held from 7.00 pm to 7:45 pm. Sri Sudhakar Rao ,Former Chief Secretary Govt of Karnataka  will be the Chief Guest & Dr V. S. Reddy , Founder & Managing Director, British Biologicals will the Guest of Honour.


Pandit Mallikarjun Mansur Award carries bronze bust of Pt. Mallikarjun Mansur, 1 lakh cash purse, citation and will be honored with shawl during one of the sessions of Dhwani.

  

About Awardee – Dr.N.Rajam

One of the finest and outstanding artists in the field of music, violin virtuoso Padmabhushan Dr. Smt. N. Rajam needs no introduction. Her magical fingers enchant the tuneful strings of the violin to create a divine and sublime atmosphere. She brought out a new realm into the world of classical music by introducing the “Gayaki Ang”, a technique that presents the vocal style of music on the violin, which has made her globally renowned as the Singing Violin. Coming from a family of traditional musicians, she mastered the Carnatic style at a very young age, and later ventured into the Hindustani style, and made a path-breaking entry through her Gayaki Ang.


She has performed in numerous prestigious music festivals all across the globe and has been loved by audiences all over the world. Apart from being a great performer, Dr. Rajam has also served as the Dean at the Banaras Hindu University for 40 years and has also been conferred the title "Emeritus Professor" in recognition of her outstanding talents and service to music. She has been the recipient of countless prestigious awards including one of the highest civilian honours in India, the Padmashri & the Padmabhushan by the President of India, the Sangeet Natak Akademi Award to name a few. 

Concert 2 - The award function will be followed by a violin trio Vidushi Dr N Rajam,Vidushi Sangeetha Shankar , Ms.Ragini & Ms Nandini Shankar  by from 8.00 pm to 9:30 pm. She will be accompanied By Pandit  Shubh Maharaj & Pandit Abhishek Mishra  on the tabla.


Session II

Concert 1

On the 5th of October, Sunday Morning  the session II of the festival features Vocal concert by Pandit Vinayak Torvi , he will be accompanied by Sri. Yogeesh Bhat on the tabla and Pandit Ravindra Katoti  on Harmonium from 9.30am  to 11.00 am, 

For the First Time in Bangalore Musical Discourse on Meera by Smt Vishaka Hari accompied by Ramakrishnan L on the violin, Chandrajith on Tabla, Santosh Kolli on the Harmonium & Arjun Ganesh on Mrudgam 


Concert 2- 2nd concert of session II on 5th of October 2025, Sunday, 4.30 pm to 5.20 pm Precussion Ensemble – Kashi Damaru by Pandit  Jagadish Kurthkoti & Team , 5.30pm to 7.00 pm Jugalbandi Pandit Praveen Godkhindi on Flute , Pandit Jayateertha Mevundi on Vocal & Pandit Rajendra Nakod on Tabla, 7.15pm to 9.15 pm Trio Jugalbandhi Pandit Vishwa Mohan Bhat on Mohanaveena, Pandit Ajay Prasanna on Flute, Pandit Tarun Bhattacharya on Santur & Pandit Abhishek Mishra on Tabla
