Mangalore: The Mangalore round of 66th edition of Ramnarayan Chellaram Rotoquiz, the oldest running quiz in the world was held on Saturday, 14th Sept 2025 at SDM PG Centre for Management and Research.
The Mangalore round of the quiz was sponsored by Ideal Ice cream, who are celebrating their 50th year, The quiz is conducted by The Rotary club of Bangalore. The Mangalore prelims is organized by the Rotary Club of Mangalore and Rotaract Club of SDM MBA.
This year the Quiz was a grand success with a record 120 teams i.e. 240 students (11th std up to post-graduates) from across DK and Udupi districts participating in the quiz contest and The registrations started at 8.30 on Sunday morning following which the students gathered at the SDM conference hall. The quiz master Rtn. SVL Narayan briefed the students about the rules & regulations and the prizes involved. This was followed by the 30 minutes written prelims round that started at 10am.
Following the written Prelims, the 4 teams that had the highest score made it to the Stage quiz conducted by Rtn. SVL Narayan which had audio, video, Rapid fire and buzzer round
The first prize was bagged by Ira Jain and Rishabh Naik from CFAL, Mangalore
2nd place was bagged by Roshan V Billava and Venu H.R from SDM college, Ujire,
3rd place went to Nabeel Mohammed and Mohammed Saquib from Yenepoya medical college, Mangalore
the 4th place was secured by Mohammed Ausaf Ihsaan and John Anthony Fernandes from IGNOU, Masters in political science.
The cash prizes were Rs,15,000, Rs.10,000, Rs.6000 and Rs. 4000 for the teams. In addition to this the team that stood 1st was given a subscription to Online courses worth Rs.16,000.
President of the Rotary club of Mangalore, Rtn. Vinod Aranha spoke at the event and expressed his happiness at the large number of participants this year and was grateful for the support of the Rotary club of Bangalore. He lauded the enthusiasm of the participants.
All the winners were given a trophy and certificates along with cash prizes handed over by Mr Mukund Kamath - Managing director Ideal Ice cream, Mangalore, The chief guest and event sponsor.
Rtn. Dr. Kunal - Secretary of Rotary Club of Mangalore, President of the Rotary club of Bangalore - Rtn. Sukhen Padmanabha, Rtn. Kishan Kumar - Youth Service Director, Rtn. Balachandra Rao - Convenor of Rotoquiz, Dr. Seema S. Shenoy - Director SDM PG centre, Dr. Savitha Pereira - Professor and staff Coordinator of Rotaract Club of SDM PG Centre and Rtr. Melroy Preetham D’Souza - President of Rotaract Club of SDM PG Centre were also present.
Rtn. Sukhen Padmanabha shared his thoughts on the 10 year long unique successful collaboration with the Rotary club of Mangalore to conduct Rotoquiz.
Mr. Mukund Kamath was felicitated by the Rotary club members. The felicitation involved the cutting of a large cake replica of the legendary Ideal ‘Gadbad’ Ice cream.
The winners from the Mangalore round will now get an opportunity to participate in the Finals at Bangalore conducted by the Rotary Club of Bangalore, on the 22nd of September 2025.
The event concluded with a vote of thanks by Rtn. Balachandra Rao, Convenor of Rotoquiz Mangalore prelims.
