Mangalore: The 70th Kannada Rajyotsava was celebrated at the Bank of Baroda, Zonal Office, Mangaluru, on 3rd November 2025.
The program was presided over by Mr. Rajesh Khanna, General Manager & Zonal Head with Mr. Ramesh Kanade, Deputy General Manager. The chief guests were Dr. Vasanth Kumar Perla and Padma Shri awardee Mr. Harekala Hajabba whose presence added grace to the occasion.
Dr. Vasanth Kumar Perla — a poet, writer, scholar, literary organizer, and former Director of All India Radio, Mangaluru — gave a detailed and insightful presentation on the history of Karnataka. He emphasized that the use of Kannada language is gradually declining compared to English and urged everyone to promote and preserve Kannada.
Mr. Harekala Hajabba, recipient of the Padma Shri award, shared his inspirational life journey and the challenges he faced. He spoke about how he collected money from selling oranges and through donations to build a government school, donating 1.22 acres of land from his own holdings. Recognizing his remarkable contribution, the Government of India honored him with the Padma Shri award in 2020. He also expressed gratitude to several nationalized banks for their support in his endeavors.
On this occasion, the General Manager & Deputy General Manager spoke about the importance of Karnataka and the Kannada language, and felicitated both Dr. Vasanth Kumar Perla and Mr. Harekala Hajabba.
As part of the Bank’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative, Bank of Baroda donated computers to the Dakshina Kannada Zilla Panchayat High School, Harekala, through Mr. Hajabba as a token contribution.
