Puttur, December 7, 2025: The Departments of Botany, Zoology, and the Eco Club of St Philomena College (Autonomous), Puttur, jointly organized a National Pollution Control Day program on December 5, 2025, at the Spandana Seminar Hall. The event aimed to raise student awareness about pollution, its harmful effects, and the shared responsibility of citizens in protecting the environment.
Presiding over the program, Rev. Dr Antony Prakash Monteiro, Principal of the college, urged students to develop a pure and responsible mindset to address the nation’s emerging environmental challenges. He emphasized that small, consistent actions by individuals can collectively lead to a cleaner and healthier environment.
The chief guest, Dr Edwin D’Souza, IQAC Coordinator and Associate Professor of Chemistry, delivered an informative talk highlighting the significance of National Pollution Control Day in memory of the tragic Bhopal Gas Disaster. He stressed the urgent need for strict pollution control measures and encouraged students to adopt eco-friendly practices and actively promote sustainability.
The event was coordinated by Botany faculty members Mrs. Shashiprabha B and Mrs. Smitha Vivek, with participation from around 30 students. The program included a prayer led by Akhila and her team, a welcome address by Mohammad Fahim III BSc, compering by Ms. Hiba Sheikh III BSc, and a vote of thanks by Ms. Nifana Mol III BSc.
