Mangalore: ‘Ancient Indians, during the process of gaining knowledge, made several discoveries in the Sciences, Mathematics and Applied Medicine. They were the pioneers in the field of herbal medicines. Now, Herbal Drug discovery has again gained momentum due to the increasing demand for natural, safe and effective therapeutic agents. Consequently, advances in technology, bioinformatics and translational research have revolutionized the way the traditional herbal medicines are developed into modern pharmaceuticals’, opined Anjan Roy, Founder and Chairman of Flowchem Pharma Pvt. Ltd., while inaugurating Two-day National Conference on ‘Awareness in Herbal Drug Discovery and Translational Research’ organized by Nitte College of Pharmaceutical Sciences, in association with Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences and Karnataka State Pharmacy Council.
Further he added that though ancient Indians were pioneers in the discovery of herbal medicines, India is still far behind the global expectations. He said that it is up to the young talents in the field of pharmacy to bring standardization based on innovative research and new findings.
Eminent entrepreneur Dr. Amit Agarwal was the Guest of Honor. Dr. Sandeep Shastri, Vice President, Nitte (Deemed to be University)-Bengaluru Campus, presided over the inaugural function. In his presidential address, he said, ‘The Indian knowledge system is a vast, holistic framework of traditional wisdom, demonstrations and scientific understanding developed over millennia covering all streams of knowledge, particularly, medicine. Now we should explore that for the well being of human beings and to create a healthy India’.
