Mangaluru, January 20, 2026: Rev. Dr. Leo D’Souza SJ (93), former Rector and Principal of St Aloysius College and Director of the Laboratory of Applied Biology, passed away on Tuesday afternoon at Fr. Mullers Hospital, Mangaluru. He breathed his last at around 2.00 p.m.
A senior Jesuit priest and noted academic administrator, Rev. Dr. D’Souza played a significant role in the development of St Aloysius College during his tenure. He was widely respected for his contributions to higher education, scientific research, and institutional leadership.
The Funeral Mass will be held at Divine Mercy Church, Fatima Retreat House, Mangaluru, at 3.00 p.m. on Thursday, January 22, 2026. This will be followed by burial at the Jesuit Cemetery in Mangaluru.
The demise of Rev. Dr. Leo D’Souza SJ has been mourned by members of the Jesuit community, academic fraternity, former students, and well-wishers. Several educational and religious institutions have expressed condolences, recalling his commitment to education, discipline, and service.
He is survived by members of the Jesuit order and a wide circle of admirers and students. Funeral arrangements are being coordinated by the Jesuit community in Mangaluru.
