Mangaluru: Konkani Lekhak Sangh, Karnataka, has announced that noted Konkani writer Mr. Patrick Camille Moras, popularly known as M. Patrik, has been selected for the Konkani Literary Award – 2026 in recognition of his lifelong contribution to Konkani language and literature.
The announcement was made at a press meet held in Mangaluru. The award will be formally conferred on February 7, 2026, at 6.30 p.m., at the Sandesha Premises, Sandesha Foundation, Bajjodi, Mangaluru.
Instituted by Konkani Lekhak Sangh in 2022, the annual award honours a distinguished Konkani writer who has made significant contributions to the growth and enrichment of Konkani literature. The award carries a cash prize of Rs. 25,000, along with a citation and a memento.
Born on November 17, 1945, Patrick Camille Moras rose from a background of economic hardship to become one of the most prolific figures in Konkani literature. Forced to discontinue formal education after the fifth standard to support his family, his literary journey was shaped by the guidance of J. B. Rasquinha, who introduced him to books and encouraged him to distribute literature door-to-door.
M. Patrik began his career at the age of eighteen as a book seller and later served as Associate Editor of Kannik Konkani Magazine. Over the years, he has authored more than 800 short stories, 400 articles, and ten novels. Through his publishing house, Nityadar Prakashan, he has published several literary works, including plays and detective dramas, making a lasting impact on Konkani literature.
In recognition of his literary achievements, he has earlier received the Honorary Award of the Karnataka Konkani Sahitya Academy and the Sandesha Konkani Literature Award – 2026.
Those present at the press meet included Richard Moras (Convener), Dolphy F. Lobo (Committee Member), Dr. Jerry Niddodi (Advisory Committee Member), and J. F. D’Souza (Advisory Committee Member).
