An exemplary move by Dr. Ramakrishna Achar, Head of SKF Elixir, who has established an award for farmers
Mangalore; 7th Feb 2026; With the objective of ensuring that the country’s farmers receive due respect and that agricultural work receives encouragement, Dr. Ramakrishna Achar-an agri-entrepreneur from Dakshina Kannada and head of the SKF Elixir group-has established the Raithapitha Award with a prize amount of one lakh rupees. For this award, which was established with the intention of honoring and respecting farmers every year, B.K. Devaraya of Mittabagilu, Belthangady taluk, Dakshina Kannada, has been selected. He is a rare farmer who has protected and preserved more than 200 rare varieties of paddy for the next generation.
Despite the fact that paddy cultivation is declining in many parts of Dakshina Kannada, 80-year-old B.K. Devaraya has continued to protect and grow over 200 paddy varieties. "B.K. Devaraya has not only saved rare varieties that could have been lost to the passage of time for the sake of the next generation but has also served as a role model for others in agriculture. In order to honor him and his noble life, we are conferring the first year's Raithapitha Award upon him," stated Dr. Ramakrishna Achar.
Dr. Ramakrishna Achar, who has done significant work as an entrepreneur and head of SKF Elixir near Moodabidri, has now set an example by stepping forward to encourage agriculture and farmers. Dr. Ramakrishna Achar's stance is extremely significant in the direction of attracting the next generation toward farming, protecting the soil, and sustaining and developing agriculture.
The Raithapitha Award will be presented on February 20th at the Gaudhama Farm in Muniyal, Karkala taluk, Udupi district, located at the foothills of the Western Ghats, according to the announcement. The ceremony will be attended by Sri Adrushya Kadasiddheshwar Swamiji of Siddhagiri Math, Kolhapur, Maharashtra, and Sri Nijalingeshwar Swamiji of Nidasesi Duradundeshwar Siddhasamsthana Math, Belagavi. On this same occasion, the ‘Krishi Mandala’ program to create agricultural awareness and the ‘Ekapavitra Shrimannagamandala’ program will be held at Gau-Dhama.
Regarding his objective, Dr. Ramakrishna Achar says: "In our country, a farmer should receive as much or even more respect than a software engineer, doctor, or businessman. An environment must be created for him to live with dignity. Additionally, through my interactions with farmers while visiting various states, I have realized that soil fertility is slowly declining. If soil fertility is to remain for the next generation, agricultural work must survive and increase. Therefore, I have stepped forward to work in this direction. The establishment of this award is one part of this goal. Furthermore, I have created a model farm called Gaudhama to introduce agriculture to the children of the next generation. Beyond this, there are many more plans."
