Puttur: The Consumer Forum of St Philomena College (Autonomous), in association with the D.K District Federation of Consumer Organisations, organised a virtual awareness programme titled “The Informed Consumer: Rights and Safety in the 21st Century” through Google Meet. The session aimed to create awareness about modern consumerism and the legal protections available to consumers in the digital era.
The resource person for the programme was Ashni Giridhar. Addressing the participants, she observed that while digital marketplaces offer unprecedented convenience, they also require consumers to exercise greater vigilance. She elaborated on fundamental consumer rights such as the right to safety, the right to information, and the right to redressal, and explained how digital marketing strategies and “dark patterns” on e-commerce platforms can influence consumer behaviour. She encouraged students to remain alert and make informed and responsible purchasing decisions.
The programme was coordinated by Mr Praveen D and Mrs Swathi Shetty D, coordinators of the Consumer Forum. The session commenced with Ms Vandya warmly welcoming the gathering, while Ms Likitha introduced the resource person to the audience.
The event concluded with a vote of thanks proposed by Ms Avani. The session witnessed active participation from students representing various colleges across the Dakshina Kannada district, and successfully enhanced awareness regarding consumer rights and responsibilities in the rapidly evolving digital marketplace.
