IPS Addresses Students at Incident ’26
Surathkal: The 45th edition of Incident ’26, themed “Odyssey: Beyond the Edge”, concluded at the National Institute of Technology Karnataka (NITK), Surathkal. Recognized as one of South India’s largest student‑organized cultural festivals, Incident ’26 brought together thousands of participants and attendees for three days of vibrant performances, competitions, and cultural exchange.
The festival commenced with a grand inaugural ceremony on 13 March at the NITK campus, graced by distinguished guests including Chief Guest Shri Deepan M.N., IPS, Superintendent of Police, Uttara Kannada, Karwar, and proud alumnus of NITK. NITK Deputy Director, Prof. Subhash Yaragal, presided over the ceremony, accompanied by Prof. Govinda Raj Madela, Dean of Students Welfare, along with institute functionaries, faculty, staff, and students.
In his address, Shri Deepan M.N. reflected on his formative years at NITK, describing it as the place “where confidence begins.” He shared experiences of leading his class and student council, and emphasized the importance of carrying forward lessons learned from peers and faculty. He encouraged students to embrace lifelong learning, to build strong networks, and to value the friendships and guidance received during their time at the institute.
He highlighted the importance of travel as a means of broadening horizons beyond technical education, urging students to explore culture, politics, customs, and practices to discover their true selves. He reminded the audience that life offers opportunities to restart at any stage, and that risk‑taking is essential for growth and fulfilment. Expressing pride in the many NITK graduates serving in civil services, particularly at the IAS and IPS levels, he conveyed gratitude to the institute for shaping his journey.
