Bengaluru: ‘Technological innovations such as AI, Building Information Modelling (BIM), and the Internet of Things (IoT) are revolutionizing Civil Engineering, shifting from conventional techniques to a data-driven, sustainable methodology. Engineers are now utilizing 3D models, automation, and real-time analytics to enhance precision, accelerate construction, improve safety, and minimize environmental impact’, stated Shubha Rao, Senior Bridge Structural Design Engineer at Bloom Companies LLC, during the inauguration of 'Survekshan-2026', a Civil Engineering festival organized by the Civil Engineering department at Nitte Meenakshi Institute of Technology in Bengaluru.
This grand annual festival has attracted hundreds of Civil Engineering professionals and students from across India.
She further remarked – ‘Sustainability in Civil Engineering is essential for reducing the construction sector's considerable environmental footprint, which accounts for 40% of global energy consumption and 38% of CO2 emissions. It incorporates eco-friendly materials, energy-efficient designs, and waste minimization to develop robust, long-lasting infrastructure while lowering costs and safeguarding ecological systems’.
Dr. S. Lokesh, a subject matter expert at L&T EduTech, was the Guest of Honor. In his address, he emphasized that diligent effort combined with strategic thinking would lead to superior outcomes in the industry. Dr. H.C. Nagaraj, Principal of NMIT, presided over the event. Also present were Dr. J. Sudheer Reddy, Director of Curriculum Development and Academics at NMIT; Dr. L. Manjunatha, Head of the Civil Engineering Department; Event coordinators, faculty members, and students.
