Mangaluru April 17: In a groundbreaking medical feat, a skilled team of doctors at Fr. Muller Medical College Hospital, Mangaluru have successively performed a very rare and unique complex Coronary Angioplasty, a minimum invasive lifesaving procedure thereby offering a new lease of life to a 46-year-old female high risk cardiac patient, hailing from Kasaragod Dist., Keralam State.
The patient came to Fr. Muller Hospital and consulted Dr. H. Prabhakar, Chief Interventional Cardiologist with complaints of severe breathing complications, fatigue problems, weakness which restricted her routine movements. On detailed clinical examination the doctor noticed that the patient was suffering from very rare decease called as Takayasu Disease and her both the major arteries supplying blood to her heart were blocked, leading to compromised heart function. The health condition was critical, and surgical risk was extremely high.
Dr. H. Prabhakar instantly swung into action and accepted the challenge. He admitted her for emergency treatment and assembled a multi-disciplinary Cardiac Team. He was supported by expert Cardiologist, Dr. Pradeep Pereira, Dr. Jostal Pinto and Dr. Ashoka and meticulously planned and co-ordinated a lifesaving procedure. The Patient was executed a complex coronary angioplasty adopting newly advanced imaging techniques and specialized cutting balloon technology.
Given the patient’s critical condition, the procedure was carried out in two stages over two separate days. The intervention successfully restored normal blood flow to the heart. This rare and intricate procedure marked a significant medical success. The patient responded positively, fully recovered and was discharged after adequate post-operative monitoring. Now the patient is leading a healthy and normal life.
Speaking about the procedure, Dr. H. Prabhakar stated that advancements in medical technology have enabled doctors to treat high-risk patients with greater precision and safety.
