MCC Bank Celebrates 114th Founders Day

Mangaluru: MCC Bank Ltd celebrated its 114th Founders Day at its Administrative Office Campus recalling the vision and legacy of the founder, late Mr P.F.X. Saldanha, and highlighting the remarkable growth achieved by the Bank in recent years.


The programme was presided over by SahakaraRatna Mr Anil Lobo, Chairman of the Bank. Rev. Dr Praveen Martis SJ, Vice Chancellor of St Aloysius (Deemed to be University), Mangaluru; Dr MeeraAranha, Former General Manager and Chief Compliance Officer of Karnataka Bank; Mr Roy Castelino, PRO of the Diocese of Mangalore and President of Rachana Chamber of Commerce and Industry; and Mr Isaac Vas, Former President of Kanara Chamber of Commerce and Industry, were the chief guests. Mr Sunil Menezes, General Manager of the Bank, was also present.


The dignitaries and family members of the founder paid floral tributes to the portrait of late Mr P.F.X. Saldanha in remembrance of his contribution towards establishing the Bank.


In his welcome address, Chairman SahakaraRatnaMr Anil Lobo said that the Founders Day celebration was initiated after his team took over the management of the Bank to honour the vision and mission of the founders. He said the Bank had witnessed remarkable growth after the new Board assumed charge in 2018, with increased professionalism and collective effort.


Highlighting the Bank’s progress, he said the branch network expanded from 16 to 21 branches after a gap of 24 years. The Bank’s business turnover increased from Rs.500 crores to Rs.1,525crores, while deposits rose from Rs.300 crores to Rs.875 crores. He added that the Bank recorded a profit of Rs.13 crores and continued to maintain “A” Grade audit classification. He also announced plans to increase the branch network from 21 to 25 branches during the current financial year.


Speaking on the occasion, Rev. Dr Praveen Martis praised the leadership of Chairman Mr Anil Lobo and appreciated the transformation achieved by MCC Bank in recent years. He particularly lauded the introduction of the “Vidyadhan Student Credit Scheme” aimed at helping economically weaker students pursue higher education. He said MCC Bank had emerged as a people-oriented institution committed to both financial growth and social responsibility.


Dr MeeraAranha launched the “Vidyadhan Education Scheme” during the programme. Addressing the gathering, she congratulated the Bank for its achievements during the last seven to eight years and appreciated the Chairman’s leadership. She stated that Artificial Intelligence, climate and ESG risk management, and trust-building would play a key role in the future growth of banks.


Mr Roy Castelino congratulated the management and staff for achieving threefold growth within seven years and observed that the Bank still had immense opportunities for expansion.


Mr Isaac Vas released the Bank’s Bulletin along with Editor Dr Gerald Pinto. In his address, he said the founder had established the Bank as a symbol of confidence and trust for the community and expressed hope that MCC Bank would become the preferred banking institution for customers.


On the occasion, newly qualified Chartered Accountants CA Muriel Mascarenhas and CA JoystonDsouza were felicitated. Konkani Central SahityaAkademi Award winner Mr Henry Mendonca (H.M. Pernal), Kittur Rani Chennamma Award recipient Ms RishelFernandes, and Rajyotsava Award recipients Dr Joseph Lobo, Mr Xavier DSouza, and Mr Prem J. Moras were also honoured.


Director Mr RoshanDSouza and Director Mr Anil Patrao were felicitated on their birthdays. Mr BannuFernandes, designer of the Bank’s new logo, and Architect Mr Deepak DSouza were also honoured during the programme.


The programme began with a prayer led by Mr Manoj Lopes and team. Mr Sunil Menezes proposed the vote of thanks, while Mr Jason Shirthady compered the programme.
