Bengaluru: Stressing the importance of building a climate-resilient and equitable future, Dr. Shailesh Nayak said that sustainability must be closely linked with social justice to bridge the gap between environmental initiatives and developmental needs. He was inaugurating Samanvaya 2026, an Industry-Academia Connect and Open House Project Expo held at Nitte Meenakshi Institute of Technology.
He highlighted the urgent need to adapt strategies to address climate challenges such as droughts, floods, and rising sea levels. He pointed out that adopting drought-resistant crops, improving irrigation techniques, and promoting regenerative farming practices are essential steps toward reducing vulnerability.
Dr. Nayak also emphasized that integrating climate awareness into technological advancements is key to transitioning from high-emission systems to sustainable, low-carbon alternatives. He urged young researchers to focus on resource efficiency and explore innovations such as AI-driven agriculture, vertical farming, and smart grids to minimize waste and energy consumption.
The expo featured *373 projects* by final-year engineering students, all aimed at solving real-world problems. Industry experts and academic delegates interacted with students and appreciated their practical and innovative solutions.
At the outset, Dr. H.C. Nagaraj welcomed the gathering. Dr. Prashanth Nagaraj, Head of the Department of Robotics and Artificial Intelligence, gave an overview of the expo. Dr. Ramachandra A.C presented a report on the institution’s innovations.
