Surathkal: National Institute of Technology Karnataka organized a five-day workshop on “Emerging Directions in Graph Theory and Graph Neural Networks” from 18 to 22 May 2026 at its campus in Surathkal. The workshop was conducted by the Department of Mathematical and Computational Sciences with funding support from the Anusandhan National Research Foundation and the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research, Government of India.
The inaugural programme, held on 18 May 2026, was attended by Pratima Panigrahi, Professor in the Department of Mathematics at Indian Institute of Technology Kharagpur, as the Chief Guest. Udaya Bhat presided over the function.
The workshop focused on the growing importance of graph theory and Graph Neural Networks (GNNs) in areas such as social networks, biological systems, recommendation systems, transportation networks, and scientific computing. The programme aimed to strengthen participants’ understanding of both theoretical concepts and practical applications in graph-based computational methods.
A total of 52 participants, including faculty members and research scholars from various institutions, took part in the workshop. The sessions included expert lectures, hands-on training, and interactive discussions on emerging research trends and applications in graph-based learning techniques.
Speakers from leading academic institutions and industry contributed to the programme, including experts from Indian Institute of Technology Kharagpur, Indian Institute of Science Education and Research Thiruvananthapuram, National Institute of Technology Calicut, Indian Institute of Technology Palakkad, Indian Institute of Technology Delhi, Delhi Technological University, and Tata Consultancy Services
