Bengaluru: BMS College for Women (BMSCW), Basavanagudi, organized the inauguration of its Students Association on August 11, 2026, at the Indoor Sports Complex of BMS College of Engineering, Bengaluru.
The program commenced with warm wishes from Dr. Ragini Narayan, Donor Trustee and Member Secretary of BMSET, and Chairperson of BMSCW.
The chief guest, Smt. Savithakka—popularly known as Janapada Vijayambike and a recipient of the Nadaprabhu Kempegowda Award—inaugurated the event by lighting the traditional lamp. Joining her as dignitaries were Guests of Honour Sri. Aviram Sharma (Trustee, BMSET), Wg. Cdr. Sri. R.A. Raghavan, Dr. Raghukumara N (Principal, BMSCW), Sri. Suresh P H (Principal, BMSPUCW), Smt. Sunitha (Vice Principal, BMSPUCW), Dr. Bhuvaneswari E (Dean Academics, BMSCW), and Dr. Pooja Pradeep Karaniya (Student Welfare Officer).
During the formal proceedings, the newly elected office bearers took their solemn oath and received their badges from the dignitaries. Additionally, student volunteers who actively facilitated the conduct of the Students Association elections were recognized and awarded certificates of appreciation.
Addressing the gathering, Smt. Savithakka emphasized the qualities required of student leaders, stating that humanity, love, affection, and empathy form the true foundation of leadership. Sharing insights from her own life journey, she encouraged students to maintain their drive despite facing setbacks or criticism. She noted that challenges are an inevitable part of life, advising students to patiently transform hurdles into fuel for their achievements.
Smt. Savithakka further urged the students to strive for financial independence, highlighting that personal talent remains a lifelong asset. She stressed the importance of physical and mental health in developing healthy habits and advised students to prioritize their personal lives and loved ones. Adding a vibrant cultural touch to her address, she sang rendered folk compositions, including songs of Siddappaji and Sojugada Sooju Mallige, with the audience actively joining in.
The event also featured an informational video introducing several new academic and student initiatives at the institution, including:
