AJMAN, UAE: His Excellency Abdulla bin Touq Al Marri, UAE Minister of Economy and Tourism, conducted an official visit to Thumbay Medicity in Ajman. The visit highlighted the growing alignment between healthcare, higher education, and medical tourism as key drivers of the nation’s diversified, knowledge-based economy.
His Excellency was received by Dr. Thumbay Moideen, Founder and President of Thumbay Group, alongside Mr. Akbar Moideen Thumbay, Vice President of the Healthcare Division, and members of the group’s executive leadership.
The Minister toured Gulf Medical University—established in 1998 and now hosting students from over 111 nationalities—alongside the campus’s academic healthcare entities. These include Thumbay University Hospital, Thumbay Dental Hospital, and Thumbay Physical Therapy and Rehabilitation Hospital.
Driving Global Competitiveness
During his tour of the integrated clinical and research facilities, Minister Bin Touq emphasized the strategic importance of private-sector investments in positioning the Emirates as an international destination for health and longevity tourism.

His Excellency noted that integrated ecosystems like Thumbay Medicity help attract top-tier international talent and students while delivering specialized health and education services aligned with global standards.
Expanding the Private Sector's Contribution
The visit focused on how private academic and clinical institutions contribute directly to the national economy. Thumbay Medicity’s specialized facilities draw significant regional and international patient traffic. At the same time, Gulf Medical University fosters one of the most internationally diverse medical student populations in the region. This unique model allows clinical care, higher education, and biomedical research to operate side-by-side to continuously drive innovation and attract foreign investment.
"When we established Gulf Medical University in 1998, we set out to build institutions that would serve the UAE for generations," said Dr. Thumbay Moideen. "His Excellency’s visit recognizes how far that vision has come and the role healthcare and medical education play in achieving the nation’s economic and tourism targets."
The official visit concluded with a walkthrough of the Medicity’s research and innovation centers. During the final leg of the tour, His Excellency engaged directly with faculty, clinical staff, and students to discuss ongoing scientific initiatives and their educational experience on campus.
