Bengalore: The 4th International Conference on Networks, Multimedia, and Information Technology (NMITCON-2026) was inaugurated at the Nitte Meenakshi Institute of Technology (NMIT), Bengaluru, drawing global researchers, technologists, and academicians to discuss critical advancements in hardware, security, and digital infrastructure.
Sponsored by the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) and organized in association with the IEEE Bangalore Section and the IEEE Communications Society (IEEE ComSoc) Bangalore Chapter, the two-day conference emphasizes bridging technological gaps and empowering early-career researchers.
Strategic Shift Toward Chiplets and UHDI
Delivering the inaugural address, Prof. Marco Re, Scientific Attaché at the Consulate General of Italy in Bengaluru and Professor at the University of Rome Tor Vergata, highlighted the immense capital and time required to build fabrication infrastructure for advanced semiconductor nodes.
"To compete in state-of-the-art microelectronics, India must recognize that building the necessary infrastructure for advanced process nodes requires massive investment and a significant amount of time," Prof. Re stated. "As a strategic shortcut to bridge this gap, India should immediately focus on Ultra-High Density Integration (UHDI) and chiplets to develop essential advanced packaging skills."
Prof. Re also addressed the declining interest among students in hardware engineering, urging educators to reframe microelectronics as an inspiring, creative discipline rather than a collection of abstract equations.
Cybersecurity and Professional Engagement
Dr. Malka N. Halgamuge, Senior Lecturer at RMIT University, Melbourne, served as the Guest of Honor. Focusing on the vulnerabilities of an interconnected world, she warned that cybercriminals are aggressively targeting critical sectors such as healthcare, energy, and transportation.
"Staying secure in this hyperconnected digital landscape remains an ongoing and critical challenge for individuals, businesses, and nations alike," Dr. Halgamuge noted, while also encouraging students to actively engage in professional bodies like IEEE to accelerate career growth.
Competitive Research Showcase
NMITCON-2026 received an overwhelming response, recording 2,284 paper submissions from prestigious international and domestic institutions across countries including the USA, the UK, Malaysia, Indonesia, Oman, and Uzbekistan, alongside leading Indian universities. Maintaining a highly rigorous 5% acceptance rate, only 94 papers were shortlisted for presentation across 11 parallel technical sessions, evaluated by domain experts from academia and industry.
Presiding over the event, Rohit Punja, Trustee of the Nitte Education Trust, urged students to look beyond traditional academic metrics: "Define your long-term career goals early and leverage modern AI tools to acquire practical skills and build projects beyond the traditional classroom curriculum. Demonstrating real-world problem-solving will set you apart far more than CGPA alone."
The inaugural ceremony featured keynotes from industry leaders including Soenil Soebedar, Founder of SOEBIT Cybersecurity, and Adarsh Ravi, Senior Engineer at Qualcomm Technologies Inc.
Earlier, Dr. Parameshachari B.D., Conference Chair and Head of the Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering, outlined the conference objectives. Dr. Sandeep Shastri, Vice President of Nitte Deemed to be University was present on the occasion. Dr. H.C. Nagaraj, Principal of NMIT, welcomed the gathering, while Dr. Thimmaraja Yadava G delivered the vote of thanks. The event was attended by faculty members, research scholars, and students from various technological institutions across India and abroad.
