BENGALURU: The Nitte Meenakshi Institute of Technology (NMIT) celebrated its 16th Graduation Day for the 2026 outgoing batch, conferring degrees upon 1,402 eligible students, comprising 1,159 undergraduates and 243 postgraduates across B.E., M.Tech, M.B.A, and M.C.A programs.
Delivering the graduation address as the chief guest, Bhagya Chandra Rao, Chairman of Wendt India Ltd., urged the new graduates to embrace authenticity, continuous learning, and unwavering integrity.
"As you step into the professional realm or entrepreneurship, my first lesson is to always be your authentic self, as genuine character and passion matter far more than standardized answers," Rao stated.
He advised graduates to cultivate a growth mindset to navigate an uncertain world, adapt to artificial intelligence, and capitalize on economic opportunities. He also encouraged students to prioritize workplace culture, learning, and mentorship over initial compensation during their early career choices.
Emphasizing the importance of ethics, Rao added, "Anchor your pursuits in unquestionable integrity and core values, consistently doing the right thing even when no one is watching, to build meaningful trust. Carry forward deep humility and gratitude for the sacrifices of your parents and mentors as you step out into a world eager for your potential."
Presiding over the ceremony, Vishal Hegde, Chancellor of Nitte (Deemed to be University), formally inaugurated the event. In his presidential address, he reminded students that graduation marks the beginning of a lifelong journey.
"Professional success requires reflecting every day on what went right and what went wrong," Hegde said. "True growth also depends on cultivating the ability to listen with your mind rather than rushing to respond, ensuring you can make sound judgments to solve complex problems." He also highlighted Nitte’s expansion since its inception in 1979 into a community of 44 institutions across three campuses.
During the proceedings, Dr. J. Sudheer Reddy, Vice Principal of NMIT, formally submitted the list of eligible candidates and requested the conferment of degrees. Following the degree distribution, Rohit Punja, Trustee of Nitte Education Trust, administered the ceremonial oath to the graduates, drawing from excerpts of the Taittiriyopanishad.
Academic Excellence and Gold Medals
A highlight of the ceremony was the presentation of top academic honors and medals to standout achievers:
Nitte Gulabi Shetty Gold Medal: Awarded to Sanjay Patil M (Department of Computer Science and Engineering, CGPA 9.91) for securing the highest CGPA across all undergraduate branches of the 2022–26 batch.
Justice K.S. Hegde Memorial Gold Medal (Best All-Round Boy-Student): Awarded to Abhishek (Department of Artificial Intelligence and Data Science, CGPA 9.39) for excellence in curricular, co-curricular, and extra-curricular activities.
Nitte Meenakshi Memorial Gold Medal (Best All-Round Girl-Student): Awarded to S. Haripriya (Department of Computer Science and Engineering, CGPA 9.07).
In total, 14 gold medals and 101 rank certificates were presented to students who secured top positions in their respective undergraduate and postgraduate programs.
The event commenced with a welcome address by Dr. H.C. Nagaraj, Principal of NMIT. The ceremony was attended by Dr. Sandeep Shastri, Vice President of Nitte (Deemed to be University), members of the Governing Council, Dr. Prashanth V, Controller of Examinations, department heads, faculty members, and proud parents and students.
