BENGALURU: The Co-Innovation Centre (CiC), under the Department of Robotics and Artificial Intelligence at Nitte Meenakshi Institute of Technology (NMIT), inaugurated its state-of-the-art CiC Product Development Studio during the two-day Deep Tech Innovation Summit 2026 at its Yelahanka campus.
Inaugurating the studio, Dr. Dileep Mangsuli, Chairman of Cancer Treatment Services International, highlighted the transformative role of advanced digital technologies, artificial intelligence, and software in healthcare.
“Healthcare is the most fascinating and personally fulfilling industry, driven heavily by advanced technologies. Incredible innovations are already transforming Indian medicine, from portable AI-powered X-rays detecting tuberculosis in minutes in remote health camps to cutting-edge nanorobots developed with IITs to target cancer cells,” Dr. Mangsuli stated. He noted that with half the global population lacking adequate healthcare access and an estimated global shortage of 18 million healthcare workers by 2030, deep tech remains the ultimate frontier for innovation.
Speaking on the occasion, Narender Gaur, Senior Vice President of the I-Hub Foundation for Cobotics (IHFC, IIT Delhi), emphasized the importance of fostering a bold innovation culture.
“A thriving innovation ecosystem requires more than just capital and code; it demands a fearless culture that empowers daring minds to transform complex scientific breakthroughs into societal triumphs,” Gaur remarked, encouraging stakeholders to bridge the gap between imagination and execution.
The summit featured three high-impact panel discussions addressing key pillars of the deep-tech ecosystem:
Accelerating India’s Deep Tech Revolution: Fast-tracking homegrown breakthroughs into scalable solutions to boost economic growth and global competitiveness.
Physical Intelligence: Examining the convergence of AI and hardware, and how embodied AI is transforming automation and daily life.
Industry-Academia Collaboration: Frameworks to translate academic research and scientific discoveries into market-ready commercial products.
The event also featured a live Physical AI demonstration highlighting autonomous systems capable of combining cognitive reasoning with physical interaction, along with the announcement of a landmark Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to strengthen strategic alliances across the sector.
Dr. H.C. Nagaraj, Principal of NMIT, welcomed the gathering, while Dr. Prashanth N, Head of Robotics & AI and Program Director, outlined the summit's objectives. Other key attendees included Rohit Punja, Trustee of Nitte Education Trust; Dr. Sandeep Shastri, Vice President of Nitte (Deemed to be University); Dr. J. Sudheer Reddy, Vice Principal of NMIT; along with faculty members and students.
