IIW Student Chapter Inaugurated at NMIT; One-Day Workshop Highlights Startup Opportunities in Welding Industry

BENGALURU: Nitte Meenakshi Institute of Technology (NMIT), Nitte (Deemed to be University), Bengaluru, hosted a one-day workshop titled “Innovation, Incubation and Startup Opportunities in the Welding Industry” alongside the official inauguration of the Indian Institute of Welding (IIW) Student Chapter on campus.

The event was organized in association with The Indian Institute of Welding (IIW) Bangalore Chapter, ACIC NMIT Foundation, and the Institution's Innovation Council under the Ministry of Education, Government of India.

Inaugurating the workshop, M. Kumaravel, Chairman of IIW Bangalore Branch, highlighted the rapid technological transformation underway in the sector.

“The welding industry is currently experiencing a massive wave of innovation, driven by advanced automation, robotics, and smart manufacturing technologies that are completely redefining traditional fabrication,” Kumaravel stated. He emphasized that specialized incubation hubs will enable young engineers to scale cutting-edge concepts into market-ready solutions.

Addressing the newly formed student chapter, he urged members to master welding fundamentals, conduct industrial visits, and organize technical workshops and competitions. He assured that the IIW Bangalore branch would offer complete support in team building, exploring startup avenues, and building long-term careers.

Speaking during the technical sessions, resource persons—including past IIW Bangalore Branch Chairmen Vishwamurthy and Sudarshan Narasipura, alongside Branch Secretary Subin Sebastian—emphasized the critical role of welding in global infrastructure, transportation, and aerospace sectors.

“Welding forms the absolute backbone of our global infrastructure, keeping automobiles and air traffic moving,” the experts noted. They pointed out that emerging startup opportunities are enhancing precision, safety, and economic growth while modernizing the trade.

The event witnessed active participation from faculty and students. Key attendees included Dr. Ramesh Babu N, Head of the Department of Mechanical Engineering; event faculty coordinators Dr. Shiv Pratap Singh Yadav and Dr. Avinash L; alongside newly appointed student office bearers of the IIW Student Chapter.
