MANGALORE: The Rotary Club of Mangalore handed over a new Obstetric Critical Care Unit (OCCU) to the Government Lady Goschen Hospital, Mangalore, on Tuesday. The project, valued at ₹70 lakhs, was implemented through a Rotary Foundation Global Grant to provide lifesaving facilities for high-risk mothers during the crucial post-delivery period.
The unit was formally handed over by Rotary District 3181 Governor Rtn. Major Donor P.K. Ramakrishna to Dr. Durgaprasad, Medical Superintendent of Lady Goschen Hospital. Rotary provided the medical equipment, while the hospital developed the required infrastructure.
Rtn. Ramakrishna commended the hospital’s service to underprivileged mothers and praised Rotary’s contribution to public health. PDG Rtn. Vikramdatta and Rtn. Devraj Fernandes, Immediate Past President, also addressed the gathering.
President Rtn. Vinod Aranha welcomed the guests, Rtn. Archie Menezes, Project Chairman, presented the project details, and Rtn. Dr. Kunal compered the program.
Lady Goschen Hospital conducts nearly 7,000 deliveries annually, 70% of which are high-risk cases. The new OCCU is expected to significantly enhance the hospital’s capacity to provide emergency maternal care.
