Surathkal, January 12, 2026: The National Institute of Technology Karnataka (NITK), Surathkal, commemorated National Youth Day with a series of meaningful events marking the 164th birth anniversary of Swami Vivekananda, emphasizing the ideals of Swadeshi, self-reliance, and youth empowerment.
The celebrations commenced early in the morning with a Swadeshi Run at 6:30 AM, flagged off from the Main Building. Organized by the NITK Students’ Council in collaboration with Utkrishta Bharath, the 3-kilometre run witnessed enthusiastic participation from students, faculty, and staff. With over 300 participants, the event served as a powerful reminder of collective responsibility, physical well-being, and national consciousness among the youth.
In the evening, the Girls’ Hostel Gym at GH5 – Nethravathi Hostel was inaugurated at 5:15 PM, marking a significant step toward promoting health, fitness, and holistic development among students.
The day’s observance concluded with a panel discussion on the theme of Swadeshi at 5:30 PM in the LHC C Seminar Hall. The session featured distinguished panelists Ms. Rashmi Samant, Captain Ganesh Karnik, and Swami Jnanishanandji, who shared valuable perspectives on Swadeshi principles, youth leadership, and nation-building. The discussion inspired attendees to reflect on the role of young citizens in shaping a self-reliant and resilient India.
