Two-Day Workshop on Immunization Awareness and Injection Competency Training Conducted at SIDS



Mangalore: The Amna Women Empowerment Cell, Srinivas Institute of Dental Sciences (SIDS), in collaboration with the Department of Pediatrics, Srinivas Institute of Medical Sciences and Research Centre (SIMS&RC), successfully organized a two-day workshop titled “Bridging Knowledge and Practice: Immunization Awareness and Injection Competency Training Workshop” on 16th and 17th January 2026 at the SIDS Auditorium.


The program commenced with a warm welcome address by Dr. Apoorva Kamath, President of the Women Empowerment Committee. Prof. Dr. K. Reshma Pai emphasized the importance of dentists being well-versed in the management of medical emergencies and having a sound understanding of immunization protocols. The guest speaker, Dr. Edwin Dias, Head of the Department of Pediatrics, SIMS&RC, was formally introduced by Dr. Sushmitha.


Dr. Edwin Dias delivered an informative guest lecture on “Immunization: An Overview,” highlighting the significance of immunization, national immunization schedules, vaccine safety, and post-exposure prophylaxis. The session provided valuable insights into the role of healthcare professionals in promoting immunization awareness and safe clinical practices. An interactive quiz organized by Dr. Hanna further reinforced the key concepts discussed during the lecture.


Hands-on Injection Competency Training sessions were conducted by Dr. Kiran Raj H. and Dr. Harshith R. Shetty, focusing on correct injection techniques, aseptic precautions, and patient safety. To ensure effective skill development, practical sessions were conducted in batches over the two days.


The workshop was coordinated by Dr. Sreevidya Bhat, Professor and Head, Department of Public Health Dentistry; Dr. Apoorva Kamath, Associate Professor, Department of Orthodontics and Dentofacial Orthopaedics; Dr. Pooja Naik, Assistant Professor, Department of Oral & Maxillofacial Pathology; and Dr. Anvika Ashok, Assistant Professor, Department of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery.


The program concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Dr. Shijal. The workshop successfully enhanced participants’ theoretical knowledge and practical competence in immunization and injection practices, thereby contributing to improved clinical skills and patient care.
